From Spec Sheet to Trusted Product Record

PDF extraction is only one step in the journey from supplier evidence to a trusted product record. The strategic workflow is broader: identify the product, decide whether it already exists, apply the right schema, extract candidate values, validate them, attach evidence, and only then write back.

A realistic example

Imagine a supplier datasheet for a 24V DC DIN-rail relay. The document includes a product family table, multiple contact configurations, coil voltages, certification marks, dimensions, wiring diagrams, and accessories. A naive extractor grabs text. A trusted-record workflow understands the product boundary.

Why this matters

The final record is not a PDF summary. It is an operational object: a product identity, category, schema-complete attributes, normalized values, provenance, confidence, and approval state. That is what allows downstream systems to search, compare, filter, substitute, quote, and recommend without reopening the datasheet every time.
