What Is a Permission Model for AI Agents and Product Data?

A permission model maps data states, identity confidence, evidence quality, conflict and action risk, to what a system may do: execute, write with flag, recommend, request evidence, or block.

A permission model maps data states, identity confidence, evidence quality, conflict and action risk, to what a system may do: execute, write with flag, recommend, request evidence, or block. Confidence is an input to the permission model, not a substitute for it.

A match scored 0.94 tells you how sure the system is. It does not tell the system whether it may write that match into the ERP. A permission model answers that second question as a rule, so the answer does not depend on who is watching.

This page is the short definition. The full method, with threshold calibration and the review workflow, is in the confidence thresholds playbook.

The four inputs

  • Identity confidence: is this the same product or supplier? See confidence score.
  • Evidence quality: is the value Known, Unproven, Conflicting or Stale? See evidence gap.
  • Conflict: do sources disagree?
  • Action risk: what does a wrong write cost?

The five outcomes

Outcome Meaning
Execute Act and commit; the data state is strong and the risk is low
Write with flag Commit, but mark the change for sampled review
Recommend Propose the change; a person approves it
Request evidence Ask the supplier or a source system for the missing proof
Block Do nothing; the field is on the block list or the state is unsafe

The block list

Some fields never auto-write at any score: certifications, compliance declarations, hazard and dangerous-goods data, country of origin. Naming them explicitly is what keeps a high confidence on a risky field from becoming an automatic write-back.

FAQ

What is a permission model for AI agents?

A permission model maps data states, identity confidence, evidence quality, conflict and action risk, to what a system may do with a value: execute, write with flag, recommend, request evidence, or block.

Is a confidence score the same as a permission model?

No. A confidence score estimates how likely a value or match is correct. A permission model decides what the system is allowed to do about it. Confidence is an input to the permission model, not a substitute for it.

What is a block list in a permission model?

A block list names fields that must never be written automatically at any confidence, typically certifications, compliance declarations, hazard data and country of origin. Those fields need an authoritative source or human approval.
