Threaded rod product attributes

Threaded rod is one of the most variant-heavy items in a fastener catalog. Each thread size comes in several lengths, materials, grades and finishes, and suppliers often sell both stock lengths and cut pieces. Files tend to list size and length clearly but describe the material loosely, so a low-carbon rod and an alloy steel B7 rod can end up with similar descriptions despite very different strength.

The specification carries most of the value. A rod made to ASTM A193 Grade B7 is intended for high-temperature or pressure bolting, while general-purpose rod may reference only a material or a threaded rod dimensional standard. Buyers in process, structural and mechanical work need the grade, tensile and yield values, and often a mill test report tied to a heat number.

Finish and thread fit interact the same way they do for bolts. Hot-dip galvanized rod needs nuts tapped oversize, and a generic galvanized label does not say which process or specification was used. Thread class, thread direction and weight per length complete the data a buyer needs to order the right rod and ship it correctly.

Normalize supplier values

The same value arrives in many spellings. Map each raw string to one governed value, and keep the raw text beside it so a reviewer can see what the supplier actually wrote.

Often missing from supplier files

These fields are commonly absent from price lists and basic feeds, even though the information usually exists in a datasheet, label or installation manual. Treat an empty value as a request for evidence, not as permission to fill it from a similar model.

From supplier file to record

1. Resolve identity first. Link the supplier SKU, manufacturer part number and packaging identifiers without merging distinct variants or pack sizes.
2. Extract with the source attached. Pull values from rows, tables and datasheets, keeping the raw text, unit and page or row reference.
3. Map to your classification. Assign the ETIM, ECLASS, UNSPSC or internal class your company licenses, and keep the supplier's original terms.
4. Review, sync and watch. Hold conflicts and safety-related values for a category expert, write approved values to ERP or PIM, and recheck when the supplier sends a new file.
