LED fixture product attributes
LED fixture attributes for catalogs: delivered lumens, efficacy, IES distribution type, DLC listing, dimming protocol and photometric files, with examples.
LED luminaires are ordered from configuration matrices, and one family can expand into hundreds of orderable combinations of lumen package, color temperature, distribution, voltage, mounting, finish and controls. Supplier feeds often list the family once with a long catalog-number string, or list every combination without saying which options changed. Either way, the attributes a buyer filters on end up hidden in part-number logic.
Performance figures need context to be comparable. Delivered lumens and input watts should come from the same configuration, and efficacy only means something when both are known. Rated life is a projection from test data, so an L70 hour value needs its basis. Distribution types, BUG ratings and photometric files describe where the light goes, which matters more for outdoor and site lighting than raw output does.
The template below treats each configuration as a record with its own measured values, controls interface and mounting, then attaches listing and utility-program evidence. That structure supports rebate checks, like-for-like substitutions and specification reviews, as long as each value traces back to the manufacturer's specification sheet or photometric report.
The led fixtures attribute template
18 candidate fields in 5 groups, ordered the way a record gets built: identify the item, capture its specifications, then record fit and the evidence behind any claim. 9 are marked Core: without them the item cannot be identified or filtered. Example values show the expected format only; they do not describe a real SKU.
Identity
Which exact item, variant and pack this record describes.
Check before use: Preserve leading zeros and punctuation, validate against the manufacturer record, and check the GTIN check digit and packaging level before linking.
| Attribute | Type | Priority | Example format |

Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) manufacturer_part_number_mpn | Identifier | Core | AL-105-40K-T4-SF |

Technical specifications
Measured or rated values that must travel with their unit and test conditions.
Check before use: Store the number and unit separately. Convert only when the source unit and test conditions are known.

Selection attributes
The type, material and option choices buyers filter and compare on.
Check before use: Map supplier wording to a governed vocabulary only after checking the source text and which variant it applies to.

Fit & compatibility
What the item mounts to, mates with, replaces or works alongside.
Check before use: Keep model and series qualifiers. A similar-looking part is not a verified fit until a source says so.

Evidence & compliance
Listings, standards, classifications and origin claims that need a document behind them.
Check before use: Link the manufacturer document or label with its edition or date. Never copy a certification from a neighboring SKU.

Normalize supplier values
The same value arrives in many spellings. Map each raw string to one governed value, and keep the raw text beside it so a reviewer can see what the supplier actually wrote.

Often missing from supplier files
These fields are commonly absent from price lists and basic feeds, even though the information usually exists in a datasheet, label or installation manual. Treat an empty value as a request for evidence, not as permission to fill it from a similar model.

Questions the record must answer
Buyers and counter-sales reps choosing led fixtures ask questions like these. Each one needs a specific field, sourced for the exact variant.
- Will this area light mount on my existing 2-3/8 in pole tenon?
- Does this exact configuration qualify for our utility rebate?
- Can I get a Type IV distribution in the same lumen package?
- Will it accept a photocell or wireless control on the receptacle?
From supplier file to record
- Resolve identity first. Link the supplier SKU, manufacturer part number and packaging identifiers without merging distinct variants or pack sizes.
- Extract with the source attached. Pull values from rows, tables and datasheets, keeping the raw text, unit and page or row reference.
- Map to your classification. Assign the ETIM, ECLASS, UNSPSC or internal class your company licenses, and keep the supplier's original terms.
- Review, sync and watch. Hold conflicts and safety-related values for a category expert, write approved values to ERP or PIM, and recheck when the supplier sends a new file.

FAQ
Why isn't a yes or no dimmable flag enough?
A dimmable fixture is only useful if its driver works with the controls on site. Store the dimming protocol as a controlled value, such as 0-10 V, forward or reverse phase, DALI or a named wireless system, along with the minimum dim level the manufacturer states. For phase-dimmed products, link the manufacturer's compatible-dimmer list. A single flag hides these differences and leads to flicker complaints and returns when the wrong control is paired with the fixture.
What does a DLC listing gate, and how should it be stored?
DesignLights Consortium qualification is used by many North American utility rebate programs to decide which commercial LED products are eligible. It applies to specific listed configurations, and the tier and technical requirements version matter. Store the DLC status, tier and product identifier exactly as they appear on the DLC qualified products list, and refresh them periodically because listings can change or be removed. Rebate eligibility itself is set by each program, so the record holds the evidence and the program rules make the decision.
How should fixtures with field-selectable wattage or CCT be modeled?
Keep them as one orderable record with a list of selectable settings, and store delivered lumens, input watts and efficacy for each setting as linked rows. Mark the factory default. Search filters and summary tables should state which setting they display, typically the maximum or the default. Where the manufacturer sells fixed-output versions under their own catalog numbers, treat those as separate variants. This keeps a switchable model from appearing to have one set of numbers that applies at only one position.
Is R9 worth storing if the record already has CRI?
It is worth storing when the manufacturer publishes it. The general CRI value (Ra) averages eight pastel test colors and does not include saturated red, which is the R9 value. Two products with the same Ra can render reds, skin tones and wood quite differently. Store Ra and R9 as separate unitless numbers so buyers in retail, healthcare or hospitality can filter on both, and leave R9 empty rather than estimated when the datasheet does not state it.
